One of the charming sights of Miyajima is the freely roaming deer. Here the deer walk side by side with visitors. Be mindful, though—they have a mischievous tendency to nibble on maps, pamphlets, or even your clothes!

Nestled near a hidden entrance along the staircase leading to a temple deep within Miyajima, you’ll find a serene path lined with Jizo statues. Each statue has a unique expression, making the peaceful walk both heartwarming and memorable.

When the tide recedes, visitors can walk right up to the iconic torii gate standing in the seashore. The tide schedule changes daily, so it’s wise to check in advance. You can get information at tourist centers or through the Miyajima Tourism Association website.

Whether you prefer a scenic hike or a leisurely ride on the ropeway, Mount Misen offers both. The panoramic views from the summit are breathtaking, revealing the shimmering waters of the Seto Inland Sea. On clear days, you can even spot distant islands on the horizon.
